(About Wood Puppet) In order to preserve our traditional culture and revive the Chinese opera, we have imitated many famous opera performers. The costumes of the puppets are going though a thousand processes, whose costumes, painting, make-up are all make by hand using the traditional method. All the woodwork was beautifully carved, and carefully finished by Jiang Xiao, who is the general director of the woodcarving council and had won the gold medal of woodcarving.Costumes are designed by the national first class fashion designer- Ye Wei Zao of the Shanghai Peking Opera, Kun Opera.Headdress showed the skillful technique of ¡°Dian cui¡± (by using the feather of kingfisher¡¯s to stick on the jewelry), which is nearly lost. (About Zhong Kui) Zhong Kui is the exorcist par excellence. It is said that he was a scholar but was attacked by demons, who altered his physical appearance, turned his face black, and gave him a comic beard. He took part in an examination and passed; at the ensuing examination, however, he was turned down because of his exceptionally hideous appearance. Deeply humiliated, he committed suicide by dashing his head against the palace steps decades earlier. , In Hell, however, he was admired and was given an army of 3,000 soldiers to help him slay demons. His image was believed to scare away ghosts and other malicious influences. For which, Zhong Kui became a popular figure in folk religion.
